Vice-Chair of Quality, Safety, and Wellness in Roanoke, Virginia
Carilion Clinic is seeking a board-certified fellowship trained Radiologist to join our practice as the Vice-Chair of Quality, Safety, and Wellness.
Compensation and Other Benefits:
- Compensation: $531,000.00 per year base with potential to make $700,000.00+ per year after bonuses.
- Professional development fund: $7200.00 per year.

- Carilion is a not-for-profit healthcare organization and therefore physicians are eligible to participate in the federal Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program.
- Virginia is a tort reform state. Carilion provides malpractice AND extended reporting period (Tail Coverage) Insurance to cover state legislated maximum malpractice claims.
Vice-Chair Responsibilities:
- 20% protected administrative time to administer the following programs:
- Oversight of system-wide (7-hospital system) programs for
- Peer Review
- Peer Learning
- Radiation Safety
- MRI Safety
- Radiology-Pathology Correlation
- ACR Accreditation Program
- Oversight of system-wide department wellness program for
- Radiologists
- Radiology APPs
- Radiology Technologists
- Radiology Support Staff
- Member of Radiology leadership team responsible for strategic planning including workforce planning, capital planning, and scorecard oversight (including quality metrics)
Clinical Work:
- Mostly day-shifts from 8AM to 5-6PM.
- Mix of subspecialty as well as general worklist assignments including reading for busy level 1 trauma center and thrombectomy capable stroke center.
- Swing shifts from Noon to 8PM – Approximately 1 swing shift every 3 weeks on average.
- Evening shift from 5PM to 11PM – Approximately 1 evening shift every 3 weeks on average.
- Weekend schedule: 3 Weekends per year.
- SECTRA PACS, Powerscribe 360 reporting, EPIC EMR, Syngo.Via/TeraRecon Advanced Visualization.
- Hybrid position with some days reading from home. Carilion will provide a full diagnostic workstation including diagnostic BARCO monitor.
- Day and evening Reading Room Assistant for troubleshooting and contacting referring providers.
- Mammography is not required.
Lifestyle Focused Practice:
- Deep overnight shift covered by teleradiology.
- 50 days of vacation per year and up to an additional 5 holidays off per year.
Other Expectations:
- All Radiologists will receive academic appointments at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine.
- Light teaching requirements including medical students and non-Radiology residents.
- Participation in tumor boards (Oncolens online platform) and practice quality improvement is expected.
Growing Clinic and Practice:
- $400 million Cardiovascular Institute expansion tower to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital - scheduled to open in 2025.
- $150 million new cancer center – schedule to break ground in 2024.
- New 37,000 sq ft mental health clinic opened in 2023.
- New 80,000 sq ft outpatient pediatric clinic opened in 2021.
- Currently have state certificate of public need (COPN) approval to install 5 new CT scanners and 1 new MRI scanner.
- Year-over-year increases in imaging volume.
The posted salary range may not reflect the full value of the total compensation package. You are eligible to participate in the Tier 1 and Tier 2 bonus compensation programs to improve the minimum salary. Historical averages of Tier 1 and Tier 2 bonus earnings are included in the maximum salary. In addition, comprehensive benefits and pension offerings further enhance the overall rewards package.
