Description
Job Summary
The Forklifts Operator is responsible for safely operating forklift while performing warehouse and material handling duties.
Job Responsibilities
- Forklift Operation: Drive the forklift and control the movement of lifting apparatus by moving levers and pressing pedals
- Material Handling: Position lifting forks under loaded pallets or skids, transport loads to designated areas, and stack materials by raising and lowering the lifting device
- Organization: Maintain material in an efficient and orderly manner by size and grade for easy retrieval
- Inventory Management: Inventory materials on the work floor and supply workers with materials as needed
- Inspection and Reporting: Inspect materials for damage or shortages and report findings to the supervisor
- Loading/Unloading: Load or unload materials onto or off of pallets, skids, or lifting devices
- Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance on the forklift, including lubricating the truck, recharging batteries, filling the fuel tank, or replacing the liquefied gas tank
- Additional Duties: Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor to support warehouse operations
Qualifications
- Certification: Valid active forklift certification.
- Communication: Ability to speak effectively with customers and employees, and to read and understand safety rules, operation, maintenance, and procedure manuals.
- Mathematics: Proficiency in basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division with whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Instruction Compliance: Ability to carry out instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
- Education and Experience:
- 1-year certificate from a college or technical school; or
- Three to six months of related experience; or
- Two-year technical degree or equivalent with 3-5 years of experience in a related field
- Technical Skills: Ability to read and understand work orders and written instructions, utilize measuring devices such as rulers, tapes, and calipers, and use a computer to check stock and print tags
- Product Knowledge: Knowledge of products handled in the warehouse
- Banding Equipment: Ability to use banding equipment
- Physical Examination: Ability to pass a physical examination for vision, hearing, and mobility
- Reliability: Demonstrated reliable work history
- Attention to Detail: Must be detail-oriented with a strong focus on precision and quality in all tasks
