Provides a high level of paraprofessional patient care and treatment with supervisory and/or administrative research responsibilities. Provides medical care to patients not requiring the specialization and/or skill of a professional nurse.

Position Key Accountabilities:

• Assists medical doctors and registered nurses with various medical techniques.
• Administers various medical tests and measurements to patients.
• Makes appointments, schedules laboratory tests, posts charts, and refills prescriptions.
• Advises patients on care of incisions, medication and other simple health care problems.
• Stocks examination rooms, sterilizes instruments, and prepares patients for exams.
• Performs routine laboratory procedures under the direction of supervisor and assists in maintenance of equipment.
• Must be able to respond to emergency situations.
• Manages, evaluates, and coordinates the vocational nursing personnel and the direction of services for optimum patient care.
• May manage Human Resources activities of department in regards to: recruiting and selection, hiring and termination, training, professional development, mentoring, counseling, performance evaluations, and salary planning.
• Other duties as assigned.

Certification/Skills:

• Excellent communication and decision making abilities.
• Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) by Texas Board of Nursing (BON) required
• Basic Life Support (BLS) by American Heart Association (AHA) required

• Graduate of an education program approved by the credentialing body for the required credential(s) required.

• Two (2) years experience required; supervisory experience preferred. Previous research experience is preferred for LVNs working in research environment.

Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
