Position Summary

The Department of Medical and Molecular Genetics at the Indiana University School of Medicine ( IUSM ), established as one of the nation's first stand-alone Genetics departments, is undergoing an expansion and invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Associate or Full Professor level to serve as Vice Chair of Translational Research. We seek an accomplished scientist with a Ph.D., M.D., or M.D./Ph.D., and a deep understanding of the molecular mechanisms of disease, and a track record of collaborative, translational research. The successful candidate will lead initiatives that bridge basic science and clinical application, helping drive genetic discoveries from bench to bedside. The Department is particularly interested in candidates performing basic or translational research to address fundamental mechanisms of human genetic disease, develop functional genomic or therapeutic approaches, and/or use computational and bioinformatic approaches for genetic discovery, phenotypic delineation, or therapeutic development. All areas of genetic disease research will be considered and candidates with programs focused on epigenetic mechanisms of disease, RNA biology or therapeutics, or neuro-oncology are encouraged to apply. The candidate must be able to mentor medical students, graduate students, residents and/or fellows in research. It is highly desirable for the holder of this position to have secured long term NIH funding, and to have demonstrated the ability to collaborate with others.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

• An established NIH -funded research program focused on genetic diseases, as well as potential industry collaborations towards translational therapeutics.
• Expertise in areas such as epigenetics, RNA biology or therapeutics, or neuro-oncology is especially encouraged, but open to all disease areas.
• Demonstrated success in translational science, collaborative initiatives, and mentoring of trainees at all levels.
• Interest in developing functional genomic approaches, therapeutic development, and/or the use computational and bioinformatic approaches for genetic discovery and phenotypic delineation towards the understanding and treatment of human genetic disorders.

Basic Qualifications

The successful candidate must have either a Ph.D. or M.D. degree, expertise in molecular mechanisms of disease, and an established research program with success in collaborative and translational research.
