Description
Dear Prospective Fellows,
The Division of Nephrology and Hypertension at Vanderbilt University Medical Center is pleased to announce the availability of a Transplant Nephrology Fellowship position for the academic year beginning July 1, 2026, and concluding June 30, 2027.
Our one-year, AST-accredited program is designed to provide comprehensive training in the care of transplant patients across the continuum—from pre-transplant evaluation through post-operative management. Upon successful completion, fellows will be eligible for UNOS certification as transplant nephrologists.
Vanderbilt is home to one of the largest and most active transplant centers in the country, having performed over 390 kidney transplants in the past year alone, including simultaneous pancreas-kidney, heart-kidney, and liver-kidney transplants. Our institution consistently ranks among the top five nationally for total solid organ transplants, with robust programs in kidney, heart, liver, and lung transplantation. We are also nationally recognized for our excellence in organ donation, having received Platinum Recognition from the National Hospital Organ Donation Campaign of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HRSA).
The fellowship includes:
- 6 months of inpatient clinical experience as the primary transplant nephrologist, covering inpatient and outpatient care, as well as living donor and recipient evaluations.
- 6 months of electives in transplant pathology, histocompatibility and tissue typing, organ procurement, non-renal solid organ transplantation, pediatric transplant nephrology, and clinical research.
Our fellows also benefit from a rich educational environment that includes:
- Weekly Transplant Research and Patient Conferences
- Monthly Renal Transplant Biopsy Conference
- Journal Clubs and didactics within the Division
- Participation in Quality Assurance & Performance Improvement (QAPI) meetings
- Optional coursework in Transplant Administration covering regulatory, financial, and quality domains in transplantation
