Temporary Lower School Teacher

Leave Replacement (1st & 2nd Grades)

The O'Neal School seeks a qualified temporary Lower School Teacher to cover two back-to-back leave periods. This position will serve as a temporary First Grade teacher from approximately mid-September through winter break, then as a temporary Second Grade teacher from January through mid-spring. Ideally, the person hired for this position will also spend time earlier in September working closely with the 1st grade teacher in preparation for assuming full-time coverage.

The major responsibility of the position is to plan, organize, and implement an appropriate instructional program according to the guidelines provided by The O'Neal School curriculum and the lead teachers, guiding and encouraging students to develop and fulfill their academic potential.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Have knowledge of, uphold, model, and communicate the mission of The O'Neal School.

• Plan, prepare, and deliver lessons appropriate to each subject.

• Assess, record, and report on the development and progress of students.

• Stay abreast of developments in the field through reading, research, and professional development, including faculty development days.

• Liaise and collaborate with colleagues, including Division Head, fellow teachers, counselor, and other resources.

Minimum Requirements:

• A Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education.

• Previous experience teaching elementary school, preferably in Grades 1 or 2.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills related to interactions with students, parents, and fellow teachers.

• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

• Attention to detail, strong organization skills, and an adherence to timeliness.
