EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Master's degree or PhD in Counseling, Clinical Social Work, or Clinical/Counseling Psychology with four years' experience working as a counselor or psychotherapist required. Minimum of two years of counseling experience in a College or University setting. Experience with crisis intervention and management.
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, and/or REGISTRATION:
Licensed professional counselor preferred or eligible to receive applicable state licensure in Clinical/Counseling Psychology or Clinical Social Work.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Complete psychosocial assessments of students to identify emotional, social, and environmental challenges
- Develop and implement short-term, psychosocial treatment plans using appropriate therapeutic interventions and standards of care
- Provide clinical counseling services to individuals, couples, and groups
- Design, plan, and implement student well-being programs such as mindfulness meditation, mindfulness eating, stress management, and other appropriate topics
- Work in collaboration with the Office of Student Affairs and all School of Medicine educational programs to develop and offer well-being outreach programs and as-needed, mental health assistance to students
- Act as a community liaison with various agencies and services
- Maintain a knowledge of federal, state, and local mental health system resources. Provide referrals for services as needed.
- Provide after-hours triage support as needed
- Complete all documentation of services according to legal and ethical standards
- Maintain required continuing education for licensure
- Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein
SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:
- Excellent oral, written, listening, and interpersonal communication skills
- Knowledge of the available resources in the immediate community

- Student Wellness Center as part of the Wake Forest School of Medicine
- Can be stressful, demanding, with many competing commitments
- Services and activities offered through the Student Wellness Center include Individual Counseling/Coaching, Couple Counseling/Coaching, Small Group Counseling/Coaching, Integrative Awareness Training, Mindfulness Meditation, Stress Management, Couple's Retreat, Zumba, Yoga, and Personal Finance

The position of Student Mental Health Counselor will work under the supervision of the Director of Counseling & Well-Being Services to address mental health and well-being concerns for medical, physician assistant, nurse anesthetist, and biomedical sciences graduate students in the School of Medicine through counseling and outreach programming. In addition to providing ethical and timely counseling services, the Student Wellness Counselor will collaborate with the counseling team, faculty, staff, and students to develop and lead psychoeducational groups and psychoeducational outreach programming initiatives and enrichment seminars (e.g., communication-skill trainings, depression screening events). The Student Wellness Counselor will consult with staff and faculty regarding student mental health and well-being concerns as needs arise and confidentiality permits and on general psychological, developmental, and prevention issues relevant to students.
