Description
The Student Activities Coordinator is a key driver of campus culture and student connection, responsible for planning, organizing, and delivering a wide range of educational, recreational, social, and cultural programs for IMG Academy student-athletes. Working alongside the dormitories and the other coordinators, this role collaborates with dormitory leadership, activity counselors, and other departments to create a vibrant, inclusive student experience that promotes community, belonging, and fun.
Position responsibilities
- Plan, organize, and supervise a wide variety of recreational, social, and cultural activities for student-athletes.
- Oversee the dormitory activity budget, including tracking expenses, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring cost-effective event planning.
- Collaborate with dormitory leadership and other engagement coordinators to plan and execute major campus events and traditions (e.g., Homecoming, Welcome Week).
- Partner with other departments on logistics for signature events and key calendar moments like check-in and move-in days.
- Lead the planning and execution of senior celebration days and traditions, such as Senior Beach Day.
- Work closely with residential mentors to plan and support weekly dormitory activities tailored to the interests of the student athletes.
- Provide logistical support for activities, including reviewing and approving event requests and contracts.
- Develop marketing strategies to promote student activities and ensure strong engagement and participation.
- Assist with student recognition events and awards ceremonies.
- Facilitate the formation of student committees to gather student voice and design programming that reflects their needs and interests.
- Plan, organize, and advise student organizations and clubs, providing leadership and development opportunities.
- Build and strengthen relationships with community partners to enhance programming and student experience.
- Train and onboard new activity counselors and coordinators, providing ongoing guidance and support.
- Create purchase order forms and submit them to the Assistant Head of House in a timely and accurate manner.
Communication & Collaboration
- Serve as a liaison between students and appropriate staff, ensuring effective communication around student engagement opportunities.
- Collaborate with internal departments to support meetings, events, and special programs.
- Tailor activities to meet the evolving needs of individual students and groups, ensuring relevance and inclusivity.
- Encourage local community involvement in campus activities where appropriate.
- Communicate event schedules, updates, and information clearly and consistently to all stakeholders.
Other Responsibilities
- Adhere to all institutional policies, procedures, and ethical guidelines.
- Attend and supervise on- and off-campus student-sponsored events as required.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of Campus Life.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Required:
- Bachelor's Degree or relevant experience in student affairs, event planning, business or related field
- Successful leadership experience in student organizations
- Knowledgeable of community and volunteer resources
- Ability to maintain accurate records
- Experience with MS Office, spreadsheet and/or database programs.
- Strong organization skills
- Ability to interact with Student Athletes ranging in age and activities interest
- Desire to work collaboratively with colleagues
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Skills
- Experience with grade/high school, college or camp student activity programs
- Experience in student programming and in advising student groups.
- Bilingual
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Should be able to handle outdoor temperatures for a reasonable period of time.
- Must be able to move around campus which includes gym, turf, fields, etc.
- Ability to lift, move, push and pull equipment or boxes in excess of 40 lbs.
- Ability to work flexible hours to include nights, weekends and holidays is required
- This role is considered essential and may be required to work during weather emergencies or business closures in order to meet operational requirements
