Salary: $3,229.17 to $4,268.20 bi-weekly ($84,281 - $111,400/year)

As a Senior Investigator, you will play a critical role in upholding workplace integrity across the Government of Alberta. You will lead independent, impartial investigations into allegations of misconduct, breaches of the Public Service Act and Code of Conduct, and Respectful Workplace Policy complaints. Your work will directly support a culture of fairness, trust and accountability within the public service.
Key responsibilities include:
- Planning and conducting thorough investigations into complex and sensitive workplace complaints.
- Interviewing complainants, respondents and witnesses with professionalism and neutrality.
- Collecting, analyzing and assessing evidence to determine findings based on the balance of probabilities.
- Preparing high-quality, defensible investigative reports that may be relied upon in disciplinary, grievance, arbitration, or legal proceedings.
- Supporting organizational learning by mentoring HR staff, sharing investigative best practices, and delivering education sessions.
- Identifying systemic issues and contributing insights that influence policy evolution and workplace culture.
Opportunity to participate in flexible work arrangements such as working from home up to two days per week and modified work schedule agreement.
Requirements
Education and Experience Requirements:
- A university degree in a related field such as Human Resources Management, Labour Relations, Business Administration, Psychology, Law or Legal Studies, Criminology or Sociology, Industrial Relations, or Public Administration, along with five years of relevant experience in the following areas:
- Managing complaints related to harassment, misconduct, or similar issues, including conducting interviews, gathering evidence, and preparing investigative reports.
- Interpreting and applying employment legislation, organizational policies, and collective agreements; overseeing disciplinary and grievance procedures.
- Maintaining case files and producing reports and findings to support clients in making informed disciplinary decisions.
The following knowledge and experiences will be considered as assets:
- Strong investigative background through several years’ experience.
- Research and analytical skills - ability to determine the applicable policies, decisions and legislation.
- Thorough knowledge of relevant legislation (e.g., Alberta Human Rights Act, Public Service Employee Relations Act (PSERA), Code of Conduct & Ethics Regulation.
- Thorough knowledge of relevant policies and directives (e.g., Code of Conduct and Ethics, Respectful Workplace Directive, Occupational Health and Safety Code).
- Experience in a unionized environment.
