Position Description:
The Environmental Health Institute is seeking applications for a Research Technician I. The research will focus on understanding how changes in metabolism influence cardiac and skeletal muscle remodeling in both health and disease. Additional projects are centered around uncovering the mechanisms mediating tissue fibrosis. Experience that includes several of the following is highly desired: primary cell culture, confocal/fluorescent microscopy, small animal handling, gel-based techniques, PCR, western blotting, lab management skills, in vivo mouse imaging (i.e., echocardiography), and CRISPR gene editing.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Organize and coordinate all ongoing studies in the laboratory.
- Direct, conduct, and organize data collection and analysis activities; coordinate and schedule research activities and experiments in an independent manner.
- Breeding and colony management of research animals (i.e. mouse breeding and genotyping).
- Coordinates lab activities such as infection control, radiation safety, and biosafety activities.
- Oversees and develops lab protocols and SOPs.
- Perform general lab management duties related to ordering of materials, reagents, equipment, and contracts.
- Ability to follow and develop protocols to perform basic and complex biochemical assays.
- Organize and conduct statistical analysis of data generated from study results.
- Prepare written reports and documents pertaining to data management, research methodology, and study results.
- Maintain an organized record of reagents, samples, and lab materials.
- All other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a related field of science and 2-3 years of related experience in at least one or more of the following: animal handling, primary cell isolation and culture, gene editing techniques (i.e., generating CRISPR KO lines), fluorescence/confocal imaging experience, surgical and/or cardiac ultrasound (i.e., echocardiography) expertise, protein and nucleic acid biochemistry, and animal models of health and disease.
- Proficient in MS outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint with effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

- Exceptional organizational and communication skills and ability to work with a highly interactive group.
- Ability to work highly independently and conduct research in a semi-unsupervised fashion.
Target Compensation Maximum:
$32.17
Target Compensation Minimum:
$21.45
Compensation will be commensurate to candidate experience.
