Description
Position OverviewThe Research Project Coordinator plays a vital role in the delivery, coordination, and improvement of assistive technology (AT) services throughout the Northeast region of Kansas. This position supports individuals of all ages with disabilities and health conditions by helping them access the tools and equipment needed to lead more independent and comprehensive lives across home, school, work, and community settings.
This role is responsible for implementing and overseeing the four core services of Assistive Technology for Kansans (ATK): device demonstrations, device loans, funding assistance, and device acquisition support. The coordinator also provides training, information, and referrals, and ensures that all activities are accurately documented in the statewide ATK database.
A significant portion of the role involves managing the AT device loan program, which includes performance monitoring, survey analysis, budget implementation for device purchases, and training of AT Specialists to ensure high-quality service delivery. The coordinator also leads public awareness and outreach initiatives to promote AT services to professionals and consumers statewide.
In addition, the coordinator administers the Kansas Equipment Exchange (KEE) program in the Northeast region by accepting, cleaning, and distributing donated durable medical equipment (DME), coordinating DME drives, and facilitating community engagement.
The position requires regular regional travel to provide direct services and conduct outreach, along with periodic travel outside the region for quarterly statewide staff trainings and professional development. The ideal candidate will be collaborative, detail-oriented, and passionate about advancing access and inclusion through assistive technology.
Job Description
(50%) Coordination of Device Loans:
- Monitors ATK device loan performance, analyzes and reviews surveys, and supervises development and implementation of services.
- Implement budgets related to the purchasing of new assistive technology devices.
- Ensures quality of services by providing training to AT Specialists.
- Conducts public awareness/outreach to Professionals and consumers of assistive technology across the state.
- Accepting donations of durable medical equipment (DME)
- Cleaning and sanitizing donated equipment
- Distributing DME to individuals in need
- Coordinating and hosting DME collection drives

- In addition, provide information and referrals and conduct assistive technology device trainings.
(5%) - Participate in quarterly statewide staff trainings and engage in additional professional development opportunities as required.
(5%) - Travel throughout the Northeast region to:
- Provide AT services to individuals
- Conduct outreach and training sessions
- Attend professional development and statewide staff trainings
Position Requirements
- Must have and maintain reliable transportation and driver's license.
- Ability to lift up to 30 pounds, clean, and maintain assistive technology equipment as needed with or without accommodation.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a related field and 1 year of experience in field related to human services OR high school diploma and 5 years of related experience in human services.
- Previous experience with basic computer applications, including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, data entry, and time management tools, as evidenced by application materials.
- Strong written and interpersonal communication skills, as demonstrated with application materials.
- Experience interacting with the public in person, by phone, or through electronic communication, as demonstrated with application materials.
- Previous experience that demonstrates organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team while following supervision and direction, as evidenced by application materials.
