Position Description:
The Institute of Molecular Cardiology seeks a Research Lab Program Manager II to guide, direct, manage, coordinate, and implement all aspects of the Institute's research activities. The experimental research laboratories in the Institute of Molecular Cardiology conduct multidisciplinary studies to explore cardioprotective mechanisms and develop novel therapeutic strategies that can be translated to patients with heart failure.
This individual will work as a team member in the experimental research laboratories, conducting studies in animal models of cardiovascular disease and evaluating various therapeutic strategies for cardioprotection. Leading regular training and ensuring the implementation of the research work plan will be necessary to remain compliant with the University's expectations and guidelines. This position is grant-funded, and continued employment is contingent upon the availability of funds.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Administrative duties: Managing, planning, and coordinating the research activities of the Institute; leading and managing research projects; developing and implementing research-related activities to work toward research goals; supervising a team of staff members and students to implement the research work plan and accomplish the research goals; writing, submitting, and implementing research regulatory protocols (such as IACUC, IBC, etc.); and writing research reports and scientific manuscripts.
- Experimental animal models: Performing surgical procedures to create animal models of myocardial infarction and heart failure in pigs, rats, and mice; administering stem cells, protective genes, and other therapeutic agents or interventions to animals with cardiovascular disease; performing cardiac functional assessments using echocardiography and hemodynamic studies; and analyzing and reporting experimental data for evaluation of cardioprotective benefits.
- Pathology and immunohistochemical analysis and reports: Performing and supervising pathology and immunohistochemical analyses.
- Stem cell culture and preparation of cells for in vivo therapy: Performing stem cell culture work, including expansion, characterization, counting, evaluation, and preparation of stem cells for therapeutic use.
Preferred Qualifications
- A PhD, MD, or DVM degree.
- A strong background in cardiac physiology, pathology, and anatomy with acquired expertise in surgical skills is expected.
Compensation will be commensurate to candidate experience.
