Responsibilities:
- Oversee all aspects of the Real Estate Lending department.
- Support the development and execution of real estate lending goals and objectives and evaluate performance in alignment with the credit union’s strategic plan.
- Manages the Loan Officers and Loan Processors including but not limited to hiring, coaching, developing, training. performance reviews and corrective actions.
- Create a sales environment where team members are always looking to deepen a member’s relationship with ECU, to improve ECU’s profitability and better the member’s financial situation.
- Review mortgage loan applications promptly for approval or denial.
- Oversee periodic review of statistics of loans issued, portfolio mix, delinquency by Loan Officer, follow up, closure rate, and time to fund etc.
- Develops and maintains effective underwriting guidelines for real estate loan applications.
- Ensures that loan errors and problems are promptly resolved.
- Implement policies and procedures for the department and ensure that they are communicated and followed.
- Support team members with loans that require a manager’s authority or decisions.
- Mediates conflicts or challenges that arise ensuring a positive resolution for both employee and member.
- Identify obstacles impacting real estate lending performance and collaborate with the VP of Lending and Collections to implement effective solutions.
- Evaluate lending software to ensure it is being fully utilized and optimized to best service members.
- Conduct regular department meetings.
- Collaborate with HR and Training to identify development needs, hiring requirements and appropriate correction actions.
- Continuously assess the department’s structure and identify opportunities to enhance and better meet members’ needs.
Requirements
- High school degree or GED required.
- Bachelor’s degree in business or related field preferred or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of mortgage lending experience preferably at a Credit Union.
- Management experience a plus.
- Knowledge of Fiserv/Portico, Encompass and Loancierge platforms a plus.
- Demonstrates in-depth knowledge of real estate lending, including processing and underwriting.
- Knowledge of collection and lending laws and regulations.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Above average Excel knowledge.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Detail oriented with outstanding organization skills and follow through skills.
- Effective and strong communication skills.
- Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
