Description
Job Summary:
The Public Information Officer is responsible for managing communications between the agency, the media, and the community. This role involves preparing press releases, coordinating public relations activities, managing social media communications, assisting with special projects, and supporting community outreach initiatives.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Write, edit, and prepare news releases for distribution.
Correspond daily with print and electronic media and support community-oriented projects.
Develop and maintain positive working relationships with news media outlets.
Assist with special projects, events, and crime prevention presentations.
Manage and distribute content across social media platforms to communicate agency programs, services, and emergency updates.
Assist in preparing public service announcements, speeches, and program proposals.
Coordinate speaking engagements with business and community groups.
Respond to media public information requests.
Participate in recruitment and community relations activities, which may include out-of-county travel.
Attend community meetings and coordinate with Neighborhood Watch groups.
Create custom PowerPoint presentations.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from high school or possession of a State of Florida-recognized High School Equivalency Diploma; AND one of the following:
Bachelors degree in Marketing, Journalism, Public Relations, or a closely related field; OR
Associates degree in Marketing, Journalism, Public Relations, or a closely related field AND four (4) years of experience in Marketing or Public Relations; OR
Eight (8) years of experience in Marketing or Public Relations.
Valid Florida drivers license.
Special Selection Criteria:
Professional experience with social media platforms and tools.
Proficiency with online marketing tools such as Hootsuite, Canva, and Mailchimp, as well as digital audio, camera, and video equipment.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Availability to be on-call and respond to events, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
No disciplinary actions or pending investigations within the past twelve (12) months.
