Description
General Statement of Duties: Provides healthcare related to common cardiac problems and performs selective medical services under the direction of the physicians of Wyoming Cardiopulmonary Services, P.C.
Supervision Received: Reports directly to the physicians of Wyoming Cardiopulmonary Services, P.C.
Supervision Exercised: Direct, near and remote supervision (dependent upon situation)
Typical Physical Demands: Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for prolonged periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds. Requires normal visual acuity and hearing. Requires exposures to communicable disease and bodily fluids. Requires working under stress in emergency situations or during irregular hours.
Typical Working Conditions: Frequent exposure to communicable disease, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinic environment.
Examples of Duties: (This list may not include all of the duties assigned)
1. Obtains complete medical history and physical data on patients. Reviews patient records.
2. Interprets and integrates data to determine appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic procedures needed.
3. Duties performed are both inpatient (hospital) and outpatient (hospital and clinic).
4. Performs a complete physical exam and records findings. Establishes presumptive diagnosis.
5. Orders appropriate laboratory and diagnostic procedures.
6. Synthesizes data to determine preliminary diagnosis and therapeutic plan utilizing principles of prevention and treatment of common cardiac problems.
7. Prepares written prescription orders for drugs and controlled substances.
8. Interviews and advises patients regarding health and illness prevention. Recommends community resources to meet patient and family needs.
9. Instructs patient and family regarding medications and treatment instructions. Provides patient education.
10. Assists physicians by recording patient progress notes, issues diagnostic orders, and transcribes orders.
11. Triages patient telephone calls and provides consultation.
12. Performs independent evaluations and treatment procedures in emergency situations.
13. Provides monitoring and continuity of care between physician visits.
14. Attends required meetings and participates in committees as requested.
15. Participates in professional development activities and maintains professional affiliations.
16. Maintains patient confidentiality.
17. Performs related work as required.
Performance Requirements:
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of the professional medical practice and care to give and evaluate patient care. Knowledge of organizational policies, regulations, and procedures to administer patient care. Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment. Skill in applying and modifying the principles, methods, and techniques of medicine to provide on-going patient care. Skill in taking medical history, assessing medical condition and interpreting findings. Skill in preparing and maintaining records, writing reports, and responding to correspondence. Skill in developing and maintaining department quality assurance. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public. Ability to maintain quality control standards. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. Ability to interpret, adapt, and apply guidelines and procedures. Ability to communicate clearly.
Education: Graduation a from an accredited Physician’s Assistant Program.
Experience: None.
Certificate/License: Certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician’s Assistants. License with the Wyoming State Board of Medicine.
