The Office of Community Engagement connects IU Indianapolis with the broader community to foster mutual growth, civic engagement, and collaborative problem-solving. It supports and promotes campus engagement while developing strategic partnerships that address local and global challenges.Key areas of focus include:
- Economic development through professional development, corporate education, and custom training programs.
- Workforce Development and Career pathways to support P12 partners.
- Civic and political engagement initiatives for students, faculty, and staff.
- Faculty-led community research and impact assessment using tools like engagement maps and the Collaboratory.
- National collaboration through networks such as Campus Compact and the Anchor Learning Network.
Job Summary
The IU K-12 Student Success Corps (SSC) is a comprehensive tutoring, mentoring, college and career exploration, and family engagement program under the Office of Community Engagement. We are seeking to fill the role of School and Learning Support Liaison for the 2025-2026 academic year. The school and learning liaison will spend 50% of their time in assigned elementary and middle school(s) collaborating closely with school staff, tutor/mentors, and the program team to ensure academic tutoring and social emotional learning are provided to the K-8 students in Lawrence and Pike Townships.
Department Specific Responsibilities
- Works collaboratively with assigned school(s) and provides support to school and IU K-12 SSC teams ensuring that academic and social emotional supports services are completed.
- Serves as one of the points of contact and maintain an active role at assigned school(s), understanding the culture and climate of the school and building strong relationships with school staff, students, and administrators.
- Participates in assigned school(s) orientation and professional development activities assisting tutors/mentors on how to effectively use resources and materials for the tutoring/mentoring sessions.
- Collects, records, enters, and monitors student data from assigned schools on a regular basis and works collaboratively with program staff to ensure data is correct and up to date.
- Establishes and maintains clear and effective communication with program director, managers, tutor/mentors, educators and administration assisting in bridging any communication gaps.
- Reinforces tutor/mentors understanding of the urgency of improving students academic performance by using district specific and relevant instructional strategies.
- Develops a trusting, professional, and reflective partnership with all tutors/mentors while working together to develop instructional plans to support all students in the program.
- Develops instructional tools with district personnel for the tutors/mentors to use during on-site school tutoring/mentoring sessions. Tracks tutoring/mentoring data, record students strengths, challenges, areas of growth, improvement plans, performance data, feedback suggestions, and follow-up plans.
- Secures information on lesson preparation, instructional approaches, data collection, student assessment data, progress monitoring data, and maintain reflections on instructional delivery techniques and student engagement.
- Provides direction and coaching to tutors/mentors on how to handle conflicts and students unacceptable behavior choices.
- Provides resources that address the social emotional needs of all students while creating positive learning environments for the students.
- Collaborates with the program managers and directors regarding program effectiveness, instructional leadership, and data management.
- Provides feedback and document tutor/mentors use of resources and learning supports, strengths and areas of growth.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
EDUCATION
Required
- High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED)
- Bachelor's degree in related field
Required
- Experience working in K-12 education and/or with K-12 academic content and curriculum, youth development or programming, systems of support and community development
- Experience in a higher education setting

Working Conditions / Demands
This position requires travel to the campus and assigned township schools, Ability to move objects up to 25 pounds. This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around assigned school(s), office and campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
Travel is required to schools.

Advertised Salary
$22.00-$25.00 per hour
Work Hours
25-28 hours a week
Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-4:00 PM with occasional evenings and weekends.
