OVERVIEW
Hunger Free Oklahoma is seeking a full-time Operations Specialist – Summer EBT to support the implementation of the Summer Electronic Benefit Transfer (Summer EBT) program, a federal initiative designed to combat childhood hunger by providing essential nutrition assistance to eligible families during the summer months. This role focuses on providing operational support across multiple service areas, coordinating logistics, and ensuring smooth program administration.
The ideal candidate will be adaptable, detail-oriented, and skilled at managing both internal processes and external communications. They should bring strong organizational skills, comfort with learning new systems, and a commitment to delivering high-quality service to participants and partners alike. This role requires flexibility to step into different functions as needed, helping ensure effective and efficient operations throughout the program cycle.
WHO WE ARE
Hunger Free Oklahoma is a statewide nonprofit established to leverage the power of collaboration to solve hunger in Oklahoma by improving systems, policies, and practices, facilitating public/private partnerships, and providing backbone support to existing organizations addressing hunger.
Hunger Free Oklahoma’s primary focus is to collaboratively work with community-based organizations, government agencies, and other stakeholders who directly serve individuals. We provide support through technical assistance, convening, research, and policy guidance to nonprofit, government, and other stakeholders statewide.
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING
The Operations Specialist – Summer EBT will be supervised by the Summer EBT Program Director. The role will evolve over time, but the core of your work will be:
- Cross-Functional Support: Be cross-trained in all three core service areas (Card Delivery, Enrollment Services, and Customer Service) to provide flexible, informed support wherever it is most needed. Demonstrate adaptability by shifting seamlessly between roles as program needs change.
- Provide High Quality Customer Service: Provide exceptional, participant-centered customer service to Tribal partners and Summer EBT participants experiencing complicated issues with their benefits. Handle escalated cases with professionalism, empathy, and efficiency. Assist at in-person card pickup events and outreach activities.
- Benefit Administration: Become proficient in the system(s) required to administer benefits; understand rules and regulations governing Summer EBT; use systems to resolve escalated cases, delegate casework, create issuance files, and perform audits among other administrative tasks.
- Administrative Coordination: Manage internal scheduling, capture meeting notes, support team calendars, and assist with internal communications and planning processes.
- Program Operations and Logistics: Serve as a point of contact to coordinate logistics and planning across the SEBT team and external stakeholders, while also supporting program and data teams to enhance efficiency and strengthen Hunger Free Oklahoma’s ability to achieve its mission.

This position is full-time and based in Tulsa or Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. This position requires the ability to perform medium physical effort consisting of occasionally handling, lifting, or moving objects 20-30 pounds for handling resources and supplies, and to sit or stand to complete office-oriented work up to 8 hours a day. This position requires some travel between Tulsa and Oklahoma City and reliable transportation is required.

Hunger Free Oklahoma offers the benefit of a hybrid work schedule, allowing up to 3 days a week for remote work for much of the year. However, due to the intensive nature of benefit administration, there will be designated weeks during the summer when full-time, in-office attendance is required. Participating in the hybrid schedule requires access to reliable internet and a dedicated workspace at home. Hunger Free Oklahoma provides the necessary equipment.
Requirements
- Have 8 or more years of relevant experience; OR 8 years in a combination of post-secondary education or training and relevant work experience
- Expert-level written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex processes clearly and work effectively with diverse stakeholders
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
- A proactive, detail-oriented approach to problem-solving, with the ability to identify issues and implement solutions
- Adaptability and willingness to step into different operational roles as program needs shift.
- Comfort and confidence in learning new systems and software quickly, with a high level of technical curiosity
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Outlook, with the ability to use these tools to support program operations
- A participant-centered mindset, committed to delivering high-quality service and ensuring program success
- Familiarity with federal nutrition program distribution (preferred)
- Skills in data entry and comfort working with program systems (preferred)
