Description
The Military-Connected and Basic Needs Coordinator provides current and prospective students and their families with a point of contact for comprehensive information about services, programs, and resources.Department Specific Responsibilities
- Provides leadership and management in sustaining a comprehensive Military-Connected and Basic Needs student support program.
- Coordinates and manages program development, implementation, and outreach to create seamless transitions and to increase student Veteran retention and success, as well as basic needs outreach.
- Certifies, advises, and counsels students who are eligible for assistance through the Department of Veterans Affairs.
- Supervises and manages the Office of Military Connected Student Services. Schedule and coordinate programs and services for our Veteran student population.
- Assists with the coordination of basic needs resources, including the Titans Feeding Titans Food Pantry, the Emergency Relief Fund, and the upcoming career closet.
- Coordinates all aspects of program development, implementation, and outreach in an effort to create seamless transitions and to increase student Veteran retention, and success.
- Advocates for student Veteran concerns and assist in problem resolution.
- Facilitates regular individual and/or group meetings as necessary to review academic, career, family, and personal goals, and progress towards those goals.
- Serves as campus liaison with other offices to create, determine, and/or notify of services available to Veterans and their families.
- Provides secure support and resources, and assist or lead student veterans in successfully transitioning to IU South Bend.
- Develops active collaborations and partnerships with federal, state, and community agencies to augment the services provided by the university.
- Serves as a point of contact for current and prospective student Veterans and their families, providing comprehensive information about services, programs, and resources.
- Acts as advisor to the Veteran Student Organization
- Manages and supervises the certification of Veteran students, serve as a certifying official for Veteran students, develop programs for our Veteran students, ensure compliance with state and federal laws as they relate to Veteran educational services, supervise Veteran student workers, and assist with the programming for our Veteran student population.
- Supervises VA student staff.
- Stays current on veterans' issues and inform current student Veterans and their families about activities, events, and relevant updates.
- Assists with the development and implementation of Basic Needs outreach for campus, including the Titans Feeding Titans Food Pantry, the Emergency Relief Fund, and the upcoming career closet.
- Develops and implements programs and initiatives that offer support for students in crisis, facing adversity or challenges, or who belong to an under-represented or minority student population.
- Interfaces directly with students by attending student programming events, advising student organization leaders, meeting 1-on-1 to discuss support needs, and gathering satisfaction feedback from student participants to implement into future student services initiatives and objectives. Places an emphasis on confidentiality of student concerns, university policy compliance, and a culture of care within all direct student interactions.
- Collaborates with staff in own department and other departments, as well as academic and campus leaders, on shared student support goals, often coordinating funding to sponsor student programs and initiatives.
- Projects outcomes for support services offered at the program, department/division, or campus level. Measures and evaluates effectiveness of student support initiatives against projected outcomes; regularly prepares reports on impact to students and budget and may present to stakeholders on effectiveness and to secure funding for initiatives moving forward.
- Serves on committees and performs student support research across the field of higher education and at peer institutions to identify and recommend best practices.
- Plans and coordinates communications for student support initiatives to ensure student participation, inclusion, and engagement.
- May provide guidance to other student support staff; makes process recommendations to manager for improved delivery of service.

EDUCATION
Required
- Bachelor's degree in education, public affairs, public health, counseling, social work, business, or related field
- Master's degree in higher education student affairs or related field

Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

$43,888.00 - $47,690.00 annually
