Location: Orthopaedic Associates of Maine

Orthopaedic Associates of Maine is seeking a Lead APP for our Joints Department—a unique opportunity to combine advanced clinical expertise with leadership responsibilities in one of Maine’s leading orthopedic care teams.
In this role, you’ll deliver exceptional patient care, assist surgeons in the OR, and lead a highly skilled APP team to ensure seamless, high-quality care for every patient we serve. What You’ll Do
Clinical Excellence
- Provide comprehensive care through patient interviews, physical exams, and medical histories.
- Serve as first assist in orthopedic surgeries and manage postoperative and inpatient care.
- Perform therapeutic procedures such as injections and wound care.
- Order, interpret, and act on diagnostic tests, imaging, and labs.
- Educate patients and families on treatments, prevention, and recovery plans.
- Participate in Ortho Access clinic coverage with flexible hours and call responsibilities.
Leadership & Administration
- Lead and support the Joints Department APP team, fostering collaboration and professional growth.
- Coordinate APP coverage, manage time-off requests, and ensure smooth departmental operations.
- Onboard, train, and mentor new APPs.
- Dedicate weekly administrative time to scheduling, operations, and quality improvement initiatives.
What We’re Looking For
- Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program.
- Current Maine licensure (or eligibility).
- PA-C (NCCPA) certification or NP with RN First Assist credential.
- DEA and BLS certifications.
- 2+ years of orthopedic joints or surgical APP experience required.
- Proven leadership skills with exceptional communication and organizational abilities.

Work Environment
- On-site, patient-facing role with some administrative flexibility.
- Travel to off-site locations as needed.
- Requires participation in off-hours and on-call coverage.
- Frequent walking, standing, and lifting up to 50 lbs; exposure to routine clinical conditions.
