Work Arrangement:
The project work location will be the South Brooklyn Marine Terminal, in Brooklyn, NY. Work hours may vary by project activities, but at peak activity working, the Labor Operations Manager will be onsite up to twelve (12) hours a day, six (6) days a week. In periods of high activity, this position will be rotational with 50% time off. Rotation frequency will be determined based on project needs.
What You'll Do:
The Labor Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing and optimizing workforce operations at a designated project site. In this role you will serve as the liaison between the onsite customer representatives and the respective union leadership to ensure effective staffing allocations and efficient coordination of resource scheduling, while maintaining compliance with labor laws, contract requirements and company policies. The Labor Operations Manager will report directly to the Project Manager, ensuring the daily communication of project updates and situations, addressing concerns as they arise.
Key Responsibilities:
• Ensure a safe, inclusive, and productive work environment.
• Develop and implement labor strategies in collaboration with the labor unions, to optimize workforce efficiency and manage project budgets.
• Oversee daily operations including scheduling, staffing, timekeeping and shift planning.
• Monitor labor performance metrics and KPIs; identify trends and areas for improvement.
• Serve as the company representative in onsite communications with the customer and labor representatives.
• Collaborate with HR and department heads to ensure compliance with labor laws, union agreements (if applicable), and company policies.
• Work in partnership to develop contingency plans for labor shortages, peak periods, and special projects.
• Prepare and present reports and forecasts to senior leadership.Education & Credentials: Bachelor's degree in construction management, operations management, business management or related discipline; or a combination of post high school and equal experience may be substituted for education.
Experience: 8 years' experience in construction, operations and/or labor. A strong knowledge of construction labor unions (i.e. Building Trades and Carpenters), contract administration, and workforce planning. Excellent communication and problem-solving skills are necessary. Ability to work nights and weekends required.
Technical Skills: Proficient with Microsoft Office products, including Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and MS Project or similar scheduling software. Advanced knowledge of the practices, procedures and processes involved in contracts administration.
