HYDROGEOLOGIST/ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENTIST I 

The general job responsibilities involve conducting hydrogeologic evaluations & modeling, GIS Mapping and interpretations, various environmental field investigations that may or may not include the sampling of groundwater, surface water, wastewater, construction aggregate, soil or other waste streams.  You may be required to perform specific field tasks including Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments, drilling oversight, UAS surveys, wetland delineation and storm water plan inspections 
and reporting.  Office duties will include preparing data tables, interpreting laboratory and field data, creating maps, writing data collection reports and presenting them to the project manager in meetings, memos, emails and presentations.  

Specific job responsibilities include but are not limited to: 

• Assist with Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs/subsurface investigations)
• Provide oversight/logging during the advancement of soil borings using Geoprobe and drill rig methodologies, monitoring well installation, development and sampling. 
• Monthly Water Elevation Data Collection from groundwater wells and staff gauges and create potentiometric surface maps. 
• Groundwater sampling using bailers and pumps.
• Hydrogeologic Modeling using software including but not limited to AnAqSim and MODFLOW.
• Sampling of aggregate from quarries and conduct testing of the materials.
• Order, use, service, calibrate and return various field sampling instruments including pH/conductivity/DO meters, water level loggers, Trimble GEOX7 survey unit, air sampling devices and noise dosimeters. 
• Assist with wetland delineations in accordance with USACE, Ohio, Michigan and Indiana methodologies and compile information into wetland maps and summary reports.
• Write storm water pollution prevention plans and spill countermeasure & control plans (SW3P and SPCC) for construction and industrial sites. 
• Perform UAS field surveys and process RGB and NIR flight data using PIX4d, Global Mapper or other GIS software packages.
• Research and compile various forms of information with respect to geological and environmental report.
• Create maps and drawings of project sites and information using CAD and GIS software including but not limited to ArcGIS, AutoCAD Lt. 
• Assist in the development of standard operating procedures.
• Assist the Project Manager in various job duties.
• Participate in mine planning and reclamation planning projects that may include attendance at public hearings or local agency public meetings.
• Perform other duties in direct relationship to the department operations.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in science or an engineering related discipline. 
• Minimum of one year experience in gathering and interpreting scientific data, conducting field sampling of soil, groundwater, and surface water. 
• Hydrogeologic Modeling software experience including but not limited to AnAqSim and MODFLOW.
• OSHA 40 hour certification (NRM will provide training and certification if needed).
• Must possess valid driver’s license with insurable driving record.
• Strong organizational and communication skills are imperative.
• Must be proficient with many computer programs, such as Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Must have high level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations.
• You will be required to lift objects greater than 50 lbs.
• You will be asked to attend some evening meetings in Michigan and Ohio in conjunction with permitting activities.
• Position involves travel and may require several weeks out of town, depending on project.
• Be able to obtain a Remote Pilot Certificate small UAS rating.
• Be able to obtain the Michigan Wetland Training Certificate.
• Participate in various forms of professional development and certifications
