Description
IU Hospitality infuses Indiana University's beautiful campus with vibrant life, creating a home away from home for visitors and the IU community alike. From our space in the Indiana Memorial Union, hospitality staff serve thousands of guests each year through professional dining and retail operations and catered events, conferences, and celebrations, keeping our spaces clean, our food tasty, and our customers happy.The 189-room IU Biddle Hotel is the largest hotel in Bloomington, Ind., the only hotel on campus, and a living embodiment of Hoosier hospitality. Visitors enjoy upscale, convenient accommodations and parking as well as on-site amenities including the Vault Pub, live music, bowling, Starbucks, a 2 level bookstore, charming outdoor dining spaces, and international food from local restaurants all in the heart of campus, steps away from the best dining, shopping, arts, and entertainment at IU and in the city of Bloomington.
Job Summary
This is a custodial position working in the housekeeping department.
Department-Specific Responsibilities
- Performs tasks related to the cleanliness and upkeep of IU Hotel guest rooms and guest spaces.
- Cleans hotel rooms, corridors, and stairways.
- Vacuums, compacts trash, and performs light maintenance work ( i.e. plunging sinks and toilets).
- Sorts and delivers linen and removes trash from rooms and building.
- Moves furniture, mattresses, box springs, cases of supplies, televisions, rollaway beds, and cribs.
- Performs room inspections to ensure proper adherence to cleanliness standards.
- Completes cleaning tasks such as: removing and changing dirty linens; cleaning and disinfecting floors, hard surfaces, bathrooms, and fixtures; cleaning hallways, corridors, etc. removing trash; vacuuming; dusting; and restocking amenities, linens, and paper products.
- Completes cleaning logs and reports status of rooms, escalating issues as needed.
- May perform general maintenance duties such as changing light bulbs, as well as periodic deep cleaning.
- May provide directions and general information to IU visitors and guests in the IU Hotel and residential spaces.
Qualifications
EDUCATION
Required
- High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED)
Preferred
- Some housekeeping, custodial, or related field experience
Required
- Proficient communication skills
- Maintains a high degree of professionalism
- Demonstrates time management and priority setting skills
- Demonstrates a high commitment to quality
- Flexibility to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment
- Highly thorough and dependable
- Ability to communicate via radio
- Ability to work with strong cleaners and disinfectants to clean the hotel

Working Conditions / Demands
This role regularly requires the ability to effectively communicate. This role frequently requires the ability to handle equipment. This role frequently requires the ability to remain stationary and ascend/descend ladders/stairs, and to position one's self in low level positions. This role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 30 pounds. The role requires the ability to detect items in proximity as well as far away; discern between colors; detect objects in peripheral space of self; discern items in detail; and to have good depth perception. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Advertised Salary
$15.45 per hour
Work Hours
8:30 AM -4:30 PM
management reserves the right to adjust work hours based on need.
