Responsible for overall leadership and daily business management of the SLV golf program (excluding golf maintenance programs), ensuring that the overall goals, objectives, policies, programs and fiscal practices of the SLV POA as they relate to golf services are implemented, administered and maintained.
RELATIONSHIPS:
The Head Golf Professional reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer on all matters relating to the golf program (excluding golf maintenance programs). The Head Golf Professional shall maintain a close cooperative relationship with the Director of Golf Maintenance, Chief Financial Officer, Chief Personnel Officer, Membership & Lifestyle Manager, Director of Food and Beverage, Director of Community Services, Director of Marketing & Information Systems, and other officials of the SLV POA, including:
Board of Directors
Cooperate with and advise as necessary members of the Board in matters concerning the assigned areas of responsibility, including but not limited to preparing such reports as requested by the Board and/or the Chief Operating Officer. As requested by the Board and/or the Chief Operating Officer, attend meetings of the Board.
Committees
Serve as a liaison (along with the Director of Golf Maintenance) to render advice, opinions, assistance and services to the Golf Committee and Handicap Committee of SLV POA.
Leadership Team
Work closely with all members of the Leadership Team in developing and meeting overall goals and objectives of the SLV POA. Attend weekly Leadership Team meetings and keep golf services team members informed in a timely manner. scheduled meetings/communications with all team members of the golf services division. Responsible for facilities/equipment inspection, support and reporting, administration, human resources, safety and health, etc. Also responsible for leading and achieving annual goals (including increased utilization of the SLV Golf Courses) for the Golf Services division set in collaboration with the Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer.
DUTIES:
Responsible for the delivery and operational results of golf services and related activities at all times and in all matters in accordance with the published rules, regulations, policies and procedures of the SLV POA. This includes the initiating, planning, organizing, promoting, coordination and supervision of all functions herein for the position and the following general areas of responsibility:
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership and management of all operations, programs, and events within the golf services division.
Supervise the effective and efficient operation of the golf shop(s) assigned, assuring a high standard of appearance, graciousness and service by developing a critical eye for details as well as the broad scope of golf operations.
Responsible for administering and directing all aspects of the GHIN Handicap System and Tee Time Reservation System.
Responsible for staff scheduling and departmental payroll administration for the golf shops and assistant professionals.
Responsible for promoting, managing and coordinating member golf events and tournaments.
Oversees the purchasing, displaying, promoting and selling of golf merchandise, with a focus on meeting branding standards working with the Director of Marketing and meeting the desires of the membership for quality merchandise at a value.
Oversee the operations and increased utilization of both practice range(s).
Oversees the execution of the SLV golf cart fleet maintenance program to include all warranty repairs and routine maintenance.
Oversees the requisition of materials and equipment needed to support the golf shops and non-maintenance operations.
Responsible for ensuring consistent and equitable enforcement of SLV POA golf rules and regulations relative to the golf program and golf play.
Responsible for planning, budgeting, and execution of golf tournaments of general interest to SLV members and in working with the Golf Committee, Men's and Women's Golf Association, and in collaboration with the Membership & Lifestyle Manager and the Director of Food & Beverage.
Oversee and assist in providing comprehensive golf instruction for individuals and groups - all aimed at growing the game and golf participation at SLV
Aggressively promote tee sheet capacity to members and outside guests to increase revenue with emphasis on filling low demand tee times.
Work closely with the Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer to develop annual operating budget and update short-term and long-term capital planning.
Work closely with Chief Personnel Officer to develop and implement staffing plans, training and development, successional planning, and cultural/retention programs.
MANAGEMENT STAFF RESPONSIBILITIES
Facilities / Equipment Inspection
Conduct regular inspections of all facilities and equipment assigned assuring cleanliness, proper physical appearance, efficient operation and required preventative maintenance. The assigned areas of responsibility include:

Notify the proper maintenance supervisor immediately of any maintenance problems or physical deficiencies that would detract from the enjoyment of the Members and guests or present a safety or health hazard. Inform the Chief Operating Officer and Director of Community Services, in writing, of observed maintenance and property deficiencies not promptly corrected: noting specific location, condition and recommended corrective measures that cannot be corrected within the Golf Services budget.
Assure compliance with all safety, sanitation and health standards in all areas assigned.
Support and Reporting
Enforce all rules and regulations of the SLV POA relating to the assigned areas of responsibility and assure compliance with the established policies and procedures of the SLV POA.
Handle complaints, grievances, suggestions and inquiries of Members and guests in a timely manner attempting to provide maximum satisfaction in keeping with policies and procedures of the SLV POA. Inform the Chief Operating Officer, in writing, of situations that may require further action or study.
Proactively lead promotional golf activities of the SLV POA including but not limited to the following:
Lead the production of regular and timely communications promoting golf shop services, merchandising, lessons, and programs/promotions of tee sheet capacity - all designed to enhance the member experience and increase revenues and participation. Consider all internal and local regional media sources (i.e. SLV Website/App, Neighborlink, Golf News, E-blasts, push notifications, and Savannah Shorelines magazine, SLV Social channels).
Attend and present all golf-related information as requested at various meetings of the SLV POA.
Responsible for preparation of materials for display and maintain in an attractive manner all bulletin boards assigned.
Ensure golf portions of the SLV POA website/App information, events and functions are current and that all events are promoted at least 30 days before the event/function. Reference Golf Tournament Event Process Map.
Familiarize staff concerning future activities of the SLV POA so as to intelligently inform and encourage participation by Members and guests.
Participate and become involved in organizations whose purpose will be of benefit to the goals and objectives of the SLV POA.
Collaborate with other golf clubs in the surrounding area, South Carolina and Georgia to encourage reciprocal golf opportunities and to share information.
Consider other marketing channels to attract outside players to SLV tee times available for outside play.
Increase the lead time to reserve to the maximum extent possible for low-demand tee times.
Administration
Lead the preparation of the proposed budget relating to the assigned areas of responsibility and administer the approved budget in a fiscally responsible manner.
Execute the general responsibilities common to all management personnel in minimizing the costs of operations, maximizing revenue, and safeguarding the property and reputation of the SLV POA.
Supervise the purchasing of all materials, supplies and services required for the assigned areas of responsibility within budgetary guidelines established by the Board and under the supervision of the Chief Operating Officer.
Be responsible for the preparation and submittal of accurate and complete records, data input forms and other required records and information relating to the assigned areas of responsibility.
Supervise the proper charging of fees and charges relating to the assigned areas of responsibility and the preparation of all reports and supporting documents for the proper accounting of all fees, charges, funds and related monies.
Report all cases that involve property damage or personal injury to the Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer immediately and assure the preparation of the required reports for insurance documentation and to meet state and federal requirements.
Obtain and maintain all licensing, certifications and training required for operation of all assigned areas of responsibility.
Human Resources
Be responsible for hiring, supervising and terminating all employees required for the areas of assigned responsibility by working with the Chief Personnel Officer and working in accordance to policies and procedures of the SLV POA and within budgetary limitations as established by the Board.
Delegate to subordinates appropriate authority to fulfill portions of assigned responsibility but may not delegate to relinquish overall responsibility for results or any portion of final authority.
Be responsible for maintaining an effective training program for all employees assigned to assure maximum utilization of all facilities and in providing services in the manner most pleasing to Members and guests, all in accordance with the policies and standard procedures adopted by the SLV POA.
Be responsible for a high standard of appearance, graciousness and service by personnel, making every effort to accommodate the service requirements of the Members and guests to the extent practical and without bias.
The Head Golf Professional provides direct supervision to the Assistant Golf Professional(s), and in-direct supervision of all golf services team members to include golf shop operators and cart attendants.
Safety and Health
Be responsible for an effective safety and health program in the assigned areas of responsibility.
Maintain a safe and healthy workplace in the assigned areas of responsibility.
Implement safety and health programs.
Identify potential hazards and take the necessary corrective and preventive measures.
Conduct and/or coordinate safety and health training for all assigned employees.
Miscellaneous
Remain current on developments in the assigned areas of responsibility and provide leadership to direct the SLV POA in being a leader in positive innovations.
The duties and responsibilities of this position are not limited to this description, and the Head Golf Professional may perform a combination of other functions when needed.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
Requires excellent communication skills to continually enhance internal team communications as well as external promotions to increase rounds.
Driven to optimize operational performance of golf play and merchandising revenues while maintaining high levels of member satisfaction.
Must be a Class A or PGA Associate with one to two years related experience with teaching ability and strong playing background.
Requires excellent leadership, interpersonal and communication skills.
Requires ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations with customers, clients and other employees of the SLV POA.
Requires ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
Requires ability to compute rate, ratio and percent.
Must possess inter-personal skills that will make people feel welcome and reflect favorably on the SLV POA.
Requires management training and/or experience in planning, supervision, financial accountability and personnel.
Must have golf shop business management skills to include merchandising.
Must have computer skills to include confidence in working in cloud-based business systems, Microsoft software - including Microsoft Teams, and other online software systems with management user interfaces.
Must be able to lift fifty (50) pounds; be able to stand for several hours; and be able to reach with hands and arms.
Must be pleasant, well organized, detailed oriented, and a team player with an enterprise mindset.
Requires ability to demonstrate conduct conforming to a set of values and accepted standards.
