OverviewESSENTIAL PURPOSE:To manage the staff and operations of the Golf Department, to ensure first-class quality service while maintaining the highest possible levels of employee morale.
Experience Required
- High school diploma or equivalent required. English fluency required.
- Must have successfully completed Business School I & II of the PGA program and I and II of the Player's Ability Test (PAT).
- Must be a PGA Class A member in good standing, and successfully complete a standard player's ability test.
- Must have completed PGA oral and written interview requirements, as well as PGA packet and all chapters.
- Previous experience in a resort of comparable quality preferred.
- Familiar with OSHA, SB198, local Department of Health regulations, and relevant current laws governing handling of hazardous substances.
- Valid California driver's license required.
- Proof of personal automobile insurance coverage required.
Essential Responsibilities
• To establish and enforce golf shop goals and policies.
• To oversee the tournament department and assist in booking rounds.
• To review the tee sheet on a daily basis, and ensure the yield and utilization are being maximized.
• To oversee the JC Players Card is being promoted to all golfers by the staff, and to meet established sales goals.
• To oversee JC Golf Pace of Play policy and ensure golf shop staff, starters and player assistants are following the current policy.
• To ensure that all golf facilities, services, and equipment meet golf course/ luxury resort quality standard, and guest satisfaction.
• To have professional and consistent communication with all golf related departments, including weekly meetings with any departments impacted by golf operations procedures.
• To organize and schedule golf functions for men, ladies, and mixed events.
• To attend trade shows, as schedule permits, to stay abreast of current trends in active-wear and accessories.
• To prepare annual departmental budget and manage the course's operations within the budgets.
• To actively market the golf course to the golfing community and to assume direct responsibility for reaching round goals, and to ensure all marketing is tracked properly.
• To ensure all golfers are provided with excellent service for their golf needs through tournament programs, teaching, golf clinics, well-stocked golf shop, food and beverage, and a friendly atmosphere.
• To ensure that the golf course, golf shop, grounds, equipment, and all other facets of the course are properly maintained and protected.
• To oversee the maintenance of all golf carts in the operation (excluding golf course maintenance equipment). Ensure all carts are in good working order, schedule monthly service and facilitate repairs in a timely manner.
• To conduct periodic staff meetings to ensure all policies are understood and being followed.
• To continually monitor and control departmental expenditures to ensure meeting operational standards while maintaining the budget, and monitoring staffing levels, salaries, and overtime so they stay within the prescribed guidelines.
• To oversee and reconcile monthly invoices.
• To assist in the development and administration of the club marketing and promotional programs.
• To conduct periodic walkthroughs of the property.
• To put out to bid, annually, all major vendor supplies needed for departmental operations.
• To properly document Personnel/Payroll transactions, as directed, for processing in Human Resources office.
• To maintain a close and cooperative relationship with the Golf Course Superintendent, Food & Beverage Manager, Corporate Director of Food & Beverage and property Controller.
• To follow all specified procedures to correctly handle cash and charges.
To promote and comply with all policies and procedures of JC Resorts LLC.
• To immediately report all suspicious occurrences and hazardous conditions.
• To maintain the cleanliness and safety of work areas at all times.
• To practice safe work habits at all times, to avoid injury to self and others, including the safe operation of all power-driven machinery.
• To ensure safe work practices of all golf staff, including compliance with company and departmental safety rules and regulations and the proper use and handling of all relevant equipment and machinery.
• To ensure departmental safety training for all new golf shop employees, before they begin to work.
• To conduct regular departmental operations meetings, including monthly safety meetings.
• To routinely perform office or non-manual work that directly relates to the JC Resorts LLC's general business operations and will customarily and regularly use discretion and independent judgement in performing the job.
• To attend all mandatory meetings as directed.
• To perform other tasks, including cross-training, as directed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
• To hire, train, schedule, support, review, discipline, and terminate employees directly accountable to his/her position, to maintain highest possible levels of employee morale and department productivity.
• To understand and respond to the current market trends, to oversee the purchase of all materials, supplies, and equipment needed to maintain and upgrade the quality of departmental goods and services.
• To create and ensure the buying plan stays within budget, and to maintain an adequate inventory of high quality merchandise in the golf shop, that will meet business demands.
SKILLS AND APTITUDES:
Demonstrated ability to train staff and ensure first-class customer service. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Detail oriented. Organized and efficient. Safety-minded. High quality standards for production and service. Good team player. Customer service focus. Ability to effectively manage staff to maintain a high level of morale and productivity.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Works both in and out of doors. Spends approximately 20% of shift outside, depending upon weather conditions and level of business. Spends approximately 80% of shift indoors in temperature-controlled, clean, and well-lighted office and Golf Shop. Golf Shop has limited space to move around displays. Makes frequent short trips between golf course and facility. Steeply sloped access from golf greens to Golf Shop and other parts of facility. Extensive property. Conducts work on greens while games are in session, and could be vulnerable to players' balls.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Stands/walks approximately 65-70% of shift. Sits/drives approximately 30-35% of shift. Occasionally required to handle and move objects weighing up to 25 lbs. over short distances. Bends, stoops, reaches, and lifts to perform routine job tasks. Must be able to work well under pressure. Must be able to withstand prolonged periods of exposure to sun. Must be flexible to work long, sometimes irregular hours. Flexibility and good reflexes required to operate electric cart. Frequent use of stairs, daily.
EXEMPT POSITION:
Exempt employees are not covered by the overtime provisions and do not receive overtime pay. Exempt employees are paid a fixed salary that is intended to cover all of the compensation to which they are entitled. Because they are exempt, such employees are not entitled to additional compensation for extra hours of work or time off in lieu of additional compensation.
AT-WILL EMPLOYMENT:
The relationship between JC Resorts LLC and the employee is for an unspecified term and is considered "at will." This means that the terms and conditions of employment may be changed, with or without cause and with or without notice, including, but not limited to termination, demotion, promotion, transfer, compensation, benefits, duties and location of work. No one other than the President of the Company has the authority to make any verbal or written agreement contrary to this provision and any such agreement must be put in writing and signed by the President before it is effective.
