Description
The IU Northwest Physical Plant - Facilities Services is a member of the campus community, maintaining the physical environment and providing services to support the University in reaching its goal of excellence in education and public service. We promote well-being through an attractive and convenient environment conducive to learning. We provide service to our customers at the University and surrounding community in an efficient and timely fashion. We keep our buildings and grounds attractive, safe, clean and functioning properly.Job Summary
- Oversees, trains, and leads workers in landscaping and grounds maintenance tasks such as mowing, trimming, planting, mulching, seeding, in-vitro fertilization, soil aeration, chemical applications, etc. Prioritizes and monitors work assignments. Reviews work for quality and adherence to campus standards.
- Inspects trees and plants and performs assessments to evaluate health and condition. Diagnoses and identifies diseases, pests, damage, and hazards. Ensures appropriate treatments are administered to maintain appearance and vitality.
- May direct irrigation installation, repair, and maintenance tasks.
- Plans and oversees seasonal projects such as leaf collection and snow removal from sidewalks, footpaths, parking lots, and entryways.
- Establishes and implements a preventative maintenance program for grounds related equipment. Ensures that equipment is repaired and maintained in safe operating condition.
- Researches and recommends equipment purchases and replacement options.
- Maintains inventories and ensures adequate supplies of parts, materials, chemicals, etc. Keeps records of chemical usage.
- May develop and administer safety training programs related to equipment operation and chemical applications.
- Performs landscaping and grounds maintenance tasks on as needed basis.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned, including general building maintenance duties. Drives University vehicles as needed. Works any shift as needed. 24-hour a day emergency response as needed. Assists with snow removal activities as necessary. Must be available to work during inclement weather (i.e. snow and ice) when weather emergencies dictate that the department is needed to take care of the campus.

EDUCATION
Required
- High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED)

- 3 years of landscape or grounds related work that includes supervisory or leadership experience
Required
- Valid driver's license and ability to be insured by Indiana University upon date of hire
- May be required to acquire and maintain a specific applicators license

- Ability to work with wide variety of cultures and backgrounds
- May be required to acquire and maintain position-required certifications

Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires the ability to remain in a stationary position as well as the ability to move about the workplace for long durations. It requires effective communication, the ability to operate machinery, tools, and controls. The role requires the ability to ascend/descend ladders/stairs, and to position one's self in low level positions, detect a variety of chemicals and/or gases. The role requires the ability to ascend to rooftops and move in tight spaces to perform and complete inspections. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
This position may require working during inclement weather (i.e. snow and ice) when weather emergencies dictate that the department is needed to take care of the campus.

Advertised Salary
$18.25 - $23.00 per hour based on experience
Work Hours
Monday - Friday, 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM
This position is required to work any shift as needed, including 24-hour a day emergency response as needed.
