Primary duties and responsibilities:
• Provide daily operational support for the exhibitions, providing day-to-day in gallery supervision
• Oversee student workers and their schedules.
• Maintain and coordinate shared programming calendars.
• Coordinate the shipping and receiving of artworks including packing and condition reports.
• Maintain an accurate record of visitor logs, loan agreement forms, etc.
• Perform data entry and management for all Anderson programming including but not limited to: applicant data submitted for open call and juried exhibitions; date for exhibitions; participant data for faculty sponsored programs.
• With support from the Administrative Coordinator, ensure loan forms and other exhibition documents are completed, filed, and information is appropriately distributed
• Manage mailing lists and assist in the collaborative maintenance of social media accounts.
• Maintain knowledge of facilities and supplies
• Assist in the tasks, duties and maintenance of the Anderson including installation of artwork, patching and painting. and painting of galleries
• Assist with the lighting of artwork and gallery spaces
• With support from the Administrative Coordinator, ensure loan forms and other exhibition documents are completed, filed, and information is appropriately distributed
Required Qualifications Education and Experience:
• Bachelor's degree in an arts discipline required or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
• Experience organizing information and data across platforms.
• Experience taking on and completing large complex projects, with successful outcomes.
• Some experience supervising a team of workers/co-workers.
• Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from various backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU
• Available to work nights and weekends as needed.
• Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite
Preferred Qualifications:
• Master's degree preferred.
• Demonstrated experience with audio/visual installation preferred
• Demonstrated art handling experience preferred
• Experience with video and audio processing software preferred
Knowledge, skills and abilities
• Understand the culture of students in the arts.
• Ability to work across social media platforms.
• Ability to maintain detailed and accurate records.
• Ability to effectively use Gmail, Google Drive and Google Calendar features.
• Ability to effectively communicate in writing and verbally.
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand and walk for long periods of time; use hands and arms to reach, handle, and feel. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 70 lbs or more.
• Comfortable working at heights
Work Expectations:
• This is a part-time, non-exempt position.
• The Gallery Administrative Assistant & Preparator will work on average 29 hours per week. In order to comply with applicable federal and state laws and policies, part-time, non-benefitted employees are not permitted to work more than twenty-nine (29) hours per week on average
