- Faculty Position in Fundamental Mechanisms of Metastasis
Description
The Center for Metastasis Research eXcellence (MET-X) at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center (Fred Hutch) is launching an open-rank faculty search for an interdisciplinary scientist to lead a research program focused on uncovering fundamental mechanisms and therapeutic vulnerabilities of cancer metastasis using the most sophisticated experimental or computational approaches.
MET-X is a dynamic research environment that encourages taking bold risks, has forums and financial mechanisms to foster collaboration, and provides robust physical and intellectual infrastructure to foster scientific success. We are seeking applicants who share our goals of: (i) Discovering and exploiting biologic, metabolic and immunologic vulnerabilities of disseminated tumor cells in order to prevent their evolution into lethal metastases; (ii) Uncovering novel tissue-specific and/or systemic vulnerabilities of metastases; and (iii) Developing curative paradigms based on these discoveries.
Scientists with multidisciplinary expertise in studying evolution of metastases and uncovering critical vulnerabilities of metastatic tumors are encouraged to apply, particularly those not just utilizing, but innovating high resolution, multi-dimensional approaches (e.g., spatial transcriptomics, high throughput functional genomics, mass-spec based imaging, and/or intravital imaging) to address this problem. Scientists studying related and applicable processes (e.g., tissue regeneration) are also encouraged to apply. We will consider PhD, MD/PhD, or MD scientists at all faculty rank levels (i.e., incoming Assistant, Associate, or Full Professors).
Faculty are expected to perform their primary activities on-site at Fred Hutch.
Fred Hutch is an independent, nonprofit organization providing adult cancer treatment and groundbreaking research focused on cancer and infectious diseases. Based in Seattle, Fred Hutch is the only National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center in Washington.
With a track record of global leadership in bone marrow transplantation, HIV/AIDS prevention, immunotherapy and COVID-19 vaccines, Fred Hutch has earned a reputation as one of the world’s leading cancer, infectious disease and biomedical research centers. Fred Hutch operates eight clinical care sites that provide medical oncology, infusion, radiation, proton therapy and related services, and network affiliations with hospitals in five states. Together, our fully integrated research and clinical care teams seek to discover new cures to the world’s deadliest diseases and make life beyond cancer a reality.
At Fred Hutch we value collaboration, compassion, determination, excellence, innovation, integrity and respect. Our mission is directly tied to the humanity, dignity and inherent value of each employee, patient, community member and supporter. Our commitment to learning across our differences and similarities make us stronger. We seek employees who bring different and innovative ways of seeing the world and solving problems.
