Description
Job DescriptionThe Facilities department seeks a Facilities Technician to assist in the operations, maintenance, and repairs to the University's buildings and grounds as well as light HVAC repairs. The typical work schedule includes 8-hour shifts during a 40-hour work week.
- Responsible for general maintenance including painting.
- Completes facilities work and room set-ups initiated by faculty, staff, and students.
- Troubleshoots, repairs and maintains the building systems and facilities as required.
- Assists with the completion of small-scale carpentry projects.
- Conducts light HVAC and preventative maintenance.
- Performs repairs of doors, hardware, and basic locksmith tasks.
- Completes light electrical repairs to appliances, fixtures and switches.
- Completes light plumbing repairs to water and sewage systems including replacement of fittings and clearing of stoppages.
- Parks cars
- Repairs and replaces of glass, tile, screens, locks, drapes.
- Assists in removal of snow and ice as needed.
- Assists in small office moves.
- Carries out preventative maintenance tasks as assigned.
- Participates in the on-call rotation for emergency situations such as inclement weather or mechanical failures.
- Additional responsibilities may be assigned by supervisor
Requirements
Required:
- A minimum of a high school diploma or GED
- A valid driver's license
- Basic knowledge of all building systems (HVAC, Plumbing, and Electrical)
- Basic carpentry skills and working knowledge of building materials, size, and nomenclature
- Ability to work with hand tools
- Basic computer skills
- Demonstrated ability to work with peers
- Ability to manage and multiple tasks simultaneously
- Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines
- Must be able to communicate and read English, follow verbal and written instruction
- The ability to occasionally work off-hours and weekends
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to climb ladders
- Must be able to lift, push and carry up to 50 lbs
- Must be able to crawl under desks
- Must be able to be constantly exposed to weather conditions
- Must spend considerable time on feet
- Must be available in the event of an emergency
