- Emergency Vehicle Upfitting LEAD
Description
Federal Signal is in searching for Lead EVIP technicians to assist Supervision & Management Team in the installation of Federal Signal and 3rd Party products used on Police, Fire and Work Truck vehicles.
Key Activities/Responsibilities:
- Install emergency warning equipment and products according to prints, assembly drawings, process documents and other job requirement sheets.
- Interfaces with customers to specify features, functions and operation of upfit vehicles.
- Creates build sheets that define the design and build of upfit vehicles.
- Trains builders on proper techniques and performs quality checks during the vehicle build process to ensure quality standards are met.
- Conduct basic programming of installed equipment, test functionality and perform troubleshooting when needed.
- Performs final, pre-delivery inspection on vehicles and trains customers on the operation of their upfit vehicles.
- Monitors shop material levels and orders shop supplies as needed.
- Interacts with customers on technical issues during the vehicle build process and provides recommended changes when necessary and works with supervision to price those changes.
- Assists Engineering with prototyping and test installation of prototype products.
- Interacts with Engineering and Service by providing direct feedback and FS Service Cloud feedback on FS products to quickly disseminate information to the PSS team.
- Maintain shop safety standards and assist Safety Team in assessing and implementing safety improvements.
- Performs the following duties as back-up to the department supervisor:
- Estimating costs and creating pricing schedule for specified builds.
- Creating vehicle build production schedule.
- Monitoring vehicle build progress and build rates against the build schedule to maintain shop efficiency.
- Making and implementing continuous improvements to shop design and installation procedures.
- Direct the vehicle build team when Supervision is not present.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
- High School Diploma.
- 5+ years' customer interface experience in the
automotive field. - Must be EVT-certified (Emergency Vehicle Technician Certification) and be recertified every 5 years.
- Experience with Law Enforcement or Fire/EMS preferred.
- Ability to interpret technical data, processes, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals (Build Sheets).
- Effective communicator, both verbally and in writing.
- Intermediate knowledge of automotive electrical systems & vehicle wiring.
- Ability to operate power tools and hand tools (drill, wrench, nail gun, staple gun, gauge, vise, etc.) as required.
- Knowledge/Ability to use our JDE ("ERP") software system to pull useful information needed to operate the day to day functions of the position.
- Must be mechanically inclined to disassemble mechanical parts for all types of vehicles.
Physical requirements:
Standing, walking, climbing 10-12ft ladder, bending and stretching around under and inside vehicles, able to lay inside the trunk of vehicles for long periods of time, crawling, kneeling, awkward posturing. Manual dexterity is important for wiring, soldering, etc. Good hand and wrist flexibility, repetitive motions. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. frequently without assistance and 30lbs on a regular basis. Must be able to work in extreme hot and cold temperatures. Must be able to work with different odors and fumes.
Wage Range: $49,070 - $70,100 Plus overtime and Bonus opportunity
