Job Description Overview

This veterans district is seeking a highly motivated Director of Veterans' Services {VSO) due to the retirement of the current director and will serve directly under a five member board. The Director implements the securing and delivery of service and benefits under applicable Veterans Administration rules and Massachusetts General Law CH 115 S 3b.

A successful candidate must possess strong, sensitive communication skills, a working knowledge of federal and state benefits available and be able to deliver those approved to eligible District veterans and families as promptly as possible. Part and parcel to the position is strong working knowledge of available and sometimes complex benefit service programs.

Further attributes of a successful candidate includes: ability to liaison with other state , federal and local agencies, excellent record keeping skills, and ability to advise on US Flag protocol and flag availability to the member towns.

Massachusetts General Law requires that only honorably discharged US Armed Forces are eligible to serve as a VSO and requires prompt DVS certification and continued recertification once employed.

Basic work requirements are a 34 hour week, valid drivers license and a reliable vehicle with a starting salary of $50,000 per year and appropriate benefits(currently under review).
