The Sciencenter is searching for a creative and visionary leader with a strong commitment to building dynamic, inclusive, and collaborative education experiences that positively impact the local and national communities that the Sciencenter serves.
MAIN FUNCTION
The Director of Education is a key member of the staff involved in developing, implementing and overseeing the museum’s facilitated experiences in a variety of STEM topics, including onsite and offsite programs, local, regional and national partnerships, and volunteer programs.
This role will be responsible for leading a strong, experienced, mission-driven team. A proven ability to conceptualize and articulate innovative museum programs, manage grant and funded programs, as well as budgeting, time management and leadership, are considered essential components of this position.
Requirements
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's Degree related to education and/or science
Minimum 3 years of experience building and leading teams
Minimum 5 years of experience in educational program development and implementation in informal settings
Equivalent experience/education will be considered
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
Demonstrated abilities in creative and strategic thinking and planning
Self-starter with strong organizational, analytical, critical thinking, problem-solving, and time management skills
Experience in developing and maintaining partnerships with other institutions and community organizations
Strong verbal and written communication skills for diverse audiences including children, adults, mixed groups, researchers and professionals
Experience managing budgets – including forecasting and tracking spending
Proven ability to work independently as well as collaborate in a team environment
Demonstrated ability to balance competing priorities, respond to immediate needs with agility, and maintain focus on long-term goals
Demonstrated passion for STEM and informal science education
People-person with proven ability to provide an engaging experience for visitors and an excellent working environment for staff and volunteers
