Adventist HealthCare seeks to hire an experienced Director of CDI for our Clinical Documentation Department, who will embrace our mission to extend God’s care through the ministry of physical, mental, and spiritual healing.
As a Director CDI, you will:
- Responsible for directing and leading the clinical documentation improvement CDI team, ensuring productivity, quality, education/training, auditing, compliance, queries and standardized practices to align with organizational and best practice goals
- Systematically evaluates the quality and effectiveness of the CDI program, analyzing appropriate internal and external data, benchmarking, and information to identify opportunities for improving CDI and documentation practices.
- Leads development of timely, compliant educational materials for staff and physicians to enhance documentation accuracy and alignment with best practices, and serves as a resource on DRG information and regulatory requirements
- Establishes and monitors departmental metrics and budgets that are aligned with the organization’s strategic priorities and sets and communicates expectations, ensuring department metrics are met or exceeded, while developing and monitoring corrective action plans when necessary.
- Fosters a transparent, supportive work environment, building strong relationships with revenue cycle, quality, medical staff, HIM, compliance, and leaders across the system to advance key objectives, communicate CDI/CMI processes and outcomes to senior leaders.
- Optimizes CDI program performance, ensuring alignment with goals, compliance with coding and regulatory standards, specifically for CMS and government agency regulations. Identifies opportunities for improvement using data-driven strategies and Lean Six Sigma principles.
- Innovates and uses CDI software adoption and optimization to drive program efficiency and improvement.
- Develops CDI strategy in collaboration with quality, revenue cycle, and physician leaders through system-level governance. Specifically collaborates with HIM and coding departments to ensure alignment and resolve discrepancies
- Establishes an effective auditing process
- Leads system-wide projects and continuous improvement initiatives, incorporating best practices and regulatory changes.
Qualifications include:
- Excellent communication skills, employing tact and effectiveness.
- Demonstrated strong leadership and management of people and processes.
- Ability to converse with physicians in sometimes difficult scenarios.
- Ability to conduct presentations to physicians and leadership.
- In-depth understanding of clinical processes, medical terminology, ICD-10, CPT, and DRG coding systems, with an understanding of APR DRG and the Maryland model preferred.
- Strong ability to analyze documentation, identify gaps, and implement solutions for improvement
- Proficiency in data analytics and reporting to make evidence-based recommendations.
- BSN Equivalent
- RN (Registered Nurse)
- Current Maryland license
- Masters preferred
- Relevant certification required, e.g. CDIP or CCDS
- 7 or more years of acute care hospital experience as a CDI/CDS Nurse
- Clinical experience as a floor nurse and/or in clinical quality
- Experience with the Maryland reimbursement model pertaining to DRG, POA, SOI, and MHACs preferred.
- Oracle Cerner experience preferred
- Soventum 360 experience preferred
- 3 or more years prior CDI management experience in a multi-entity system
- CCDS (Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist) or CDIP (Clinical Documentation Improvement Practitioner).
- Maryland State License
- Maintains current working knowledge of Coding Clinic Guidelines and federal updates to DRG system (MS, APR, AP etc)
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, microbiology, and disease processes.
Work Schedule: Day Shift
Pay Range: $127,850.69 - $191,776.04If the salary range is listed as $0 or if the position is Per Diem (with a fixed rate), salary discussions will take place during the screening process.
Under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), this position is classified as: United States of America (Exempt)
