There are 85 full-time faculty members and more than 24,000 alumni worldwide.
Reporting to the Provost on the Indianapolis campus, the new Dean will build on the current success of the School and its faculty and take it to the next level of its development as a national leader in teaching, practice, research, and service.
The next Nursing Dean will exhibit the following characteristics:

The ability to ask good questions, listen, and synthesize information will be critical. Communicating in modes/styles that multiple stakeholder groups understand is critical.
- An understanding of the role of research at a Research 1 University and a track record of supporting research to increase funding
- An understanding and/or experience building enrollment operations and achieve specific enrollment goals; an appreciation for student success and retention of students as a strategic enrollment priority
- An understanding of the role and importance of fundraising, a track record of building relationships with external partners (health systems, individual donors, etc.), and an understanding of the role of the lead development officer in the fundraising process
- An appreciation for the role of all faculty (tenure track, non-tenure track, part-time, etc.) in achieving the mission of the school.
- Experience building and/or leading a high-functioning team where roles are clearly defined, accountability exists, and trust is strong
- Administrative leadership experience including the ability to empower people as well as hold people accountable
- Experience recruiting and retaining faculty to include identifying plans for reward/recognition
The next Dean will be asked to ensure the School of Nursing maximizes impact across three locations (Bloomington, Fort Wayne, and Indianapolis). This will include ensuring faculty and staff at all three locations see their role in the broader school operations while allowing for unique differentiation where appropriate.
