Who We Are
For over 50 years, the Poverello Center has provided a necessary safety net for our community members living in hunger and homelessness. The organization’s mission is to provide food, shelter, help, and hope to all who ask. This is accomplished through advocacy, education, and a multitude of services to improve the health, well-being, and stability of people struggling with poverty and homelessness in Missoula.

What You’ll Do
As the Community Engagement Coordinator, you’ll be the connector between our mission and the people who make it possible. You’ll lead outreach efforts, build lasting relationships, and create meaningful opportunities for volunteers and community members to engage. From planning events and leading public presentations to supporting communications and coordinating a dynamic volunteer program, you’ll play a key role in growing our impact and deepening our roots in the community. The position is part of the Development Team and supports/is supported by the Director of Development and the Communications Coordinator.
Community Outreach & Engagement
- Develop and execute outreach strategies while cultivating and maintaining strong relationships with key community groups, schools, businesses, and civic organizations.
- Represent the organization at events, including community events, pint nights, meetings, tabling opportunities, and public forums.
- Organize and lead presentations or tours to raise awareness and promote involvement.
- Track and evaluate outreach efforts using metrics like attendance, engagement, and follow-up participation.
- Maintain a calendar of community events and coordinate organization participation.
- Prepare and deliver compelling presentations, pitches, and tours tailored to diverse audiences.
- Actively seek and vet opportunities for new community partnerships and collaboration.
Volunteer Program Coordination
- Develop and implement a year-round volunteer recruitment strategy using platforms, social media, and in-person outreach.
- Maintain an up-to-date volunteer database and manage communication lists.
- Conduct intake calls or interviews with prospective volunteers to assess interests and fit.
- Match volunteers with meaningful and impactful opportunities based on interests, skills, and availability.
- Develop and regularly update volunteer handbooks, onboarding materials, and role-specific training resources.
- Plan and facilitate volunteer orientations, group trainings, and ongoing educational sessions.
- Ensure volunteer roles comply with safety, liability, and privacy policies.
- Act as the main point of contact for all volunteer-related questions and conflict resolution.
- Monitor volunteer performance and gather feedback to improve the overall experience.
- Organize and lead volunteer appreciation events, recognition campaigns, and personal thank-you outreach.
- Track volunteer hours, retention, and impact; produce regular reports for internal use and funding needs.
- Event Support.
- Assist in the planning, promotion, and execution of fundraising, awareness, and outreach events.
- Coordinate logistics for volunteer-led donation drives, service projects, and community campaigns.
- Serve as a liaison to individuals or groups organizing third-party events on behalf of the organization.
Communication & Collaboration
- Collaborate with the Development Director and Communications Coordinator to support messaging and campaigns that increase public engagement and volunteerism.
- Support content creation for newsletters, social media, and outreach materials highlighting volunteer stories and community partnerships.
- Work with program staff to ensure community engagement efforts—including volunteer activities—are aligned with organizational priorities and operational needs.
- Other duties and special projects as directed by the Director of Development and the Executive Director.

This position is full-time and is based on 40 hours per week in 8-hour shifts and requires some weekend availability. This position reports to the Director of Development and is based at the emergency shelter in Missoula, Montana. The wage for this position is $ 18.00-$21.00 hourly. In addition, this position includes the following benefits:
