Preferred Qualifications Position Summary
This position will assist the Director with archaeological and site file curation and collections management. Position includes tasks related to curation and collections management, database entry, and digital preservation quality control activities. This position also includes administrative tracking of contracts and grants. This position will assist in specific efforts of curation care including maintaining high levels of curation standards and environmental monitoring. Additional duties include working with Laboratory staff on policy, standards, and procedure revisions and development. Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
- Strong working knowledge of archaeological collections management
- Strong working knowledge of archaeological database management
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; strong customer service background.
- Interested and able to work with others in a team environment.
- Strong organizational and troubleshooting skills; able to adapt to change.
- Able to work independently on complex tasks.
- Experience supervising subordinates and/or student workers.
- Understanding of current computer technologies
- Sitting at a desk for long periods of time and working at a computer.
- Lift file boxes that may weigh up to 40 pounds.

Duties/Responsibilities
Duties/Responsibilities
Assist Director and Laboratory staff on collections management tasks as it relates to the preservation and quality control of digital information. These include using the Laboratory's database management system to enter, manage, and perform quality control checks on digital information, tracking metadata, creating finding aids, maintaining file naming protocol, maintaining permanent digital curation files, and other quality control duties as it pertains to the Laboratory's digital holdings and database. This also includes digital preservation activities as it relates to the scanning of documents, slides, prints, negatives, etc. Other tasks as assigned.
Percentage of time 40 Duties/Responsibilities
Assist the Director and Laboratory staff with quality control over the Laboratory facilities such as monitoring of temperature and humidity, integrated pest management, cleanliness and organization, security, emergency preparedness, and other care practices, such as maintaining the location barcode accuracy and inventory of collections in different facilities. This also includes creating reports on curation conditions, inventories, collections assessments, preparing and assisting with the physical transfer of collections in and out of the facilities. Other duties as assigned.
Percentage of time 30 Duties/Responsibilities
Assist the Director and Laboratory staff with creating and implementing curation and collections management policy and standards. This includes working with Laboratory staff on policy, standards, and procedure revisions and development. Other duties as assigned.
Percentage of time 15 Duties/Responsibilities
Assist the Director and Laboratory staff with reviewing project information managed by the Franklin Business Office Research Support Enterprise Team (REST). This includes working closely with the REST group on any questions concerning funding, budgeting requests, compliance, project information and reviewing monthly reconciliation/budget reports.
