The Chair of the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology will be charged with administrative responsibility for all academic affairs in the department. The Chair provides strategic, academic, and administrative leadership to advance the department's mission in research, education, and service. This involves fostering a culture of academic excellence, promoting innovative research, and ensuring high-quality teaching. The Chair also oversees the department's budget, faculty recruitment, mentoring and development and strategic planning, while collaborating with other departments, the Dean's office and University leadership.
The Chair's leadership will include a vision and a strategic plan to grow the Department's basic science and clinical research programs and training programs. The Chair will be a collaborative leader who can unify the Department and mobilize the people towards a shared mission, as well as partner with the School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences leadership to achieve strategic priorities.
The successful candidate will be a PhD or MD/PhD at the academic rank of associate professor or professor who is nationally and internationally recognized in the field, with leadership credentials and a record of educational and research excellence. The next Chair will be a forward-thinking leader who will guide the department through inevitable change in this evolving healthcare landscape. They will possess the requisite emotional intelligence to promote a culture of collaboration, stewardship and transparency, with a commitment to continuous improvement, re-aligning resources as strategies and needs evolve.
