- Assistant Professor of Cardiac Surgery

Salary: $240,000 with a total compensation estimated at $680,000 excluding sign on bonus
Status: Full Time
I. Specific Responsibilities and Duties
In addition to mutually agreed upon goals to be developed in partnership with the department director, and the division chief, the assistant professor shall assume the following responsibilities and duties:
Clinical: Service commensurate with your skills in cardiac surgery at a clinical commitment of 90% effort. You are expected to participate in the adult cardiac surgery commitment of 90% effort. You are expected to participate in the adult cardiac surgery service call responsibilities as well as call for cardiac transplantation/mechanical circulatory support. We expect you to be clinical 4 days/week. Your practice will substantially focus on transplant surgery, including inpatient rounding, participation in multidisciplinary meetings, quality improvement efforts, etc.as well as the full spectrum of adult cardiac surgery. An additional full day will be devoted to heart failure clinic as well as general adult cardiac outpatient clinic.
General Academic and Teaching: We anticipate that you will devote 10%, half day per week, of your time to the formal and informal instruction of medical students, residents, and fellows. We would expect that you would participate in operative resident teaching and education, attend division conferences, participate in national organizations, continue to produce scholarly output, participate fully in the Surgery Mortality and Morbidity Conference, the Surgery Staff Conferences, and the Department of Surgery and Division Faculty meetings. We are particularly enthusiastic about your demonstrated teaching in the operating room and know that the Hopkins cardiac surgery fellows will benefit greatly from your skill and experience in taking them through complex operations. Your academic effort should also continue to focus on clinical and translational research programs.
Research: As you know we are building a large Clinical Research Unit devoted to high- quality/high-enrollment clinical research. This resource will be available for you to support your clinical research activities, as well as coordinator support for investigator-initiated research. As a consortium member of the Cardiothoracic Surgical Trials Network, Hopkins affords you
the opportunity for deep involvement in the network, including being the local PI on upcoming trials, and participation in developing new trials and joining quarterly all- investigator meetings.
