JOB DESCRIPTION

WPEC CBS 12 is looking for our next Assistant News Director. A day-to-day newsroom leader who recognizes stories that will impact and engage the community and knows how to guide the group in crafting a compelling narrative across all platforms. A modern journalist who understands the news is always on and can help newsgatherers meet the expectations of the 24 hr./multi-screen news audience. An accomplished storyteller who can mentor and coach talent, producers and desk personnel on how to get better every day.

Some other targets for the right candidate:
• Minimum of 8 years newsroom experience, 3 in a management role.
• Strong writing/editing skills.
• The knowledge and experience to respond quickly and effectively to breaking news utilizing field crews and digital assets.
• Ability to keep trains running on time, monitoring deadlines, managing talent schedules and other administrative tasks.
• Commitment to a positive, collaborative newsroom environment where everyone is engaged and driven to do their best work every day.
• Familiarity with iNews, Overdrive and MediaCentral a plus.
