Description
The Hammond-Harwood House Association, established in 1940, owns and operates as a museum the 1774 Hammond-Harwood House in the Historic District of Annapolis, Maryland. The house is an exceptional example of Anglo-Palladian design, and the museum collection holds paintings, furniture, and decorative art. The 501-c-3 organization offers tours and programs focusing on Annapolis history, architecture, fine and decorative arts, and social history of the inhabitants both free and enslaved. The house is a National Historic Landmark and is in an excellent state of preservation.
Like many other non-profits, the Hammond-Harwood House staff is small and each member carries a variety of responsibilities. We are seeking an engaged, well-qualified individual to join the staff due to an anticipated resignation.
Objective: To provide a broad range of professional and administrative service in all aspects of the operations of the Hammond-Harwood House. To work closely with the Executive Director, Board of Trustees, Curator, and all staff, docents, and volunteers to ensure the smooth and effective daily operation of the organization as it carries out its mission.
Duties:
Responsible for the administrative functions of the organization, including the daily financial transactions, fundraising database, website and social media, the organization’s calendar, and other office systems.
Lead event planning; manage logistics for events, including recruiting and assigning volunteers.
Working with the Curator and volunteer docent leaders, manage logistics of the tour program and special programs and tours, including group tours.
Responsible for marketing efforts through paid advertising and social media.
Act as the public face of the museum on a daily basis, answering telephone and website inquiries and helping with public museum functions.
Manage the gift shop; work with volunteers to maintain inventory and assess results.
Lead effort to obtain and carry out appropriate rentals of the property.
Provide support for the Board of Trustees - execute and keep meeting minutes and other necessary organization documentation.
Assist Executive Director in overseeing routine buildings and grounds upkeep and special preservation projects.
Participate with the Executive Director, the Board, and the Curator in preparing and implementing annual objectives and the fiscal year budget.
Requirements
BA degree; two years previous experience in historic site, museum/gallery, or non-profit administration. Proficiency with Blackbaud database system, social media and web interfaces, and MS office suite. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Interest in history, art, museums, preservation.
