A Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) interviews clients referred to by New York City’s HRA, applying clinical judgment to determine appropriate treatment needs and levels of care. Our CASACs work with a variety of clients and interact with treatment providers daily. CASACs link individuals to chemical dependency treatment and harm reduction programs and also review progress to assist clients in recovery, leading to self-sufficiency.
- Conduct one on one assessments on HRA-identified applicants and recipients
- Determine if treatment is needed
- Make clinical recommendations for treatment referrals
Requirements
- Must have an active NYS CASAC credential
- Minimum of 3 years' experience in a substance use treatment setting
- High school degree is required, Bachelors is preferred
- Bilingual Spanish is a plus
Schedule: M-F 9am to 5pm in Union Square office (hub)

A CASAC-T interviews clients referred to by New York City’s HRA, applying clinical judgment to determine appropriate treatment needs and levels of care. Work with a variety of clients and interact with treatment providers daily. Under the supervision of a CASAC Supervisor you will link individuals to chemical dependency treatment and harm reduction programs and also review progress to assist clients in recovery, leading to self-sufficiency.
- Conduct one on one assessments on HRA-identified applicants and recipients
- Determine if treatment is needed
- Make clinical recommendations for treatment referrals under CASAC supervision Qualifications:
- Must have an active NYS CASAC-Trainee credential
- Be CASAC- Exam-ready with all but 1000 or less work experience hours completed
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a substance use treatment setting
- High school degree is required, Bachelors is preferred
- Bilingual Spanish is a plus
