Role Summary
The Appraisal Coordinator is a key contributor to the appraisal process, leveraging their professional expertise as a Licensed or Certified Appraiser to ensure the quality, accuracy, and compliance of all valuation activities. This position involves coordinating appraisal-related activities, communicating with internal and external customers, reviewing appraisals for compliance with industry standards, and ensuring alignment with FNMA Selling Guide requirements.
The Appraisal Coordinator acts as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in property valuations and provides guidance to other internal departments—including Underwriting, Post-Closing, and Quality Control (QC)—on the valuation aspects of the mortgage process. This role also serves as a key point of contact for Appraisal Management Companies (AMCs), vendors, along with internal and external customers.
Work Schedule
- Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM (45-minute lunch break)
- Flextime: At manager's discretion
- Overtime: Possible based on departmental volume
Responsibilities
Appraisal Coordination
- Manage all aspects of the appraisal process, including ordering, receiving, and updating appraisal statuses in the system
- Monitor and address the questions in the Appraisal mailbox for timely communication
- Coordinate with AMCs to ensure smooth workflow, including cancellations, revisions, and file submissions
- Assist with monthly billing processes
Appraisal Review
- Review appraisals for accuracy, quality, and compliance with FNMA Selling Guide standards
- Identify discrepancies or issues and communicate necessary revisions to appraisers
- Perform quality control reviews to ensure regulatory and internal standards are met
- Maintain detailed documentation of appraisals and associated communications
- Complete desk reviews as needed, utilizing internal worksheet or Appraise-It Pro software
Communication and Collaboration
- Act as a liaison between internal Third Federal Departments and AMCs to ensure seamless operations
- Provide clear and professional communication regarding appraisal terms, methodologies, and status updates
- Collaborate with team members to address high-volume workloads and meet deadlines
Training and Development
- Participate in training sessions and retain knowledge of the appraisal process
- Mentor team members on appraisal best practices and compliance standards
- Continuously update knowledge of FNMA guidelines and industry trends
Operational Support
- Demonstrate a high level of accuracy and efficiency in managing appraisal data and documentation
- Support departmental needs, including phone calls, emails, and other tasks as assigned
- Contribute to process improvements and efficiency initiatives within the department
Requirements
Education and Certification
- Active Licensed or Certified Appraiser
- Comprehensive knowledge of appraisal methodologies, FNMA Selling Guide, and related standards
Skills and Abilities
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in reviewing and documenting appraisals
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- Proven ability to multi-task and manage high volumes of work efficiently
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment
- Demonstrated ability to logically work through loan and appraisal-related issues
- Advanced problem-solving and critical-thinking skills
Technical Proficiency
- Familiarity with appraisal management software and tools
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Ability to learn and utilize proprietary systems effectively
